Valentine Riverside Museum
Richmond, VA
Calori & Vanden-Eynden’s scope of work for The Valentine Riverside Museum encompassed the design of all exterior and interior pedestrian and vehicular signs at this 8-acre site on the banks of the James River. Design work included a site-wide, exterior and interior signage and wayfinding program for this historic and educational facility at the former Tredegar Iron Works site of Civil War fame. The main identification sign was cut from a single 13-ton block of Pennsylvania blue stone and has hand carved incised letterforms. The large red triangle is the logo of The Valentine Museum. All post and panel and plaque-type signs incorporate the Museum’s logo in the form of a notch cut “V“. The signs were designed to project an industrial quality to reflect the site’s industrial past. Along with exhibits by Albert Woods Design, the signage program reinforces the site’s industrial history through bold formed metal panels and exposed fasteners and structures.
